Puppy Vaccinations Back

Puppies typically require 3 sets of vaccinations, with the first set being done at 8 weeks of age. At this time, the DA2PP (Distemper/Adenovirus/Parvovirus/Parainfluenza) vaccination is due.

The following set of vaccinations is due at 12 weeks of age. At this time, the DA2PP (Distemper/Adenovirus/Parvovirus/Parainfluenza) will be repeated, in combination with the Leptospirosis vaccination (in most cases). At Burford Veterinary Hospital, we consider the Leptospirosis vaccination to be part of our core vaccination protocol as we have had active cases in the area and see a lot of wildlife around. This vaccination can be opted out of if not desired.

As well, at this 12-week vaccination appointment we can introduce the lifestyle vaccinations. These include Lyme and Bordetella (Kennel Cough). At the time of the appointment, we will discuss these options with you. If electing for the Lyme vaccination, a booster at the 16-week appointment would be required, and thereafter the vaccination is due annually if given on time each year. If electing for the Bordetella vaccination, a booster at the 16-week appointment would not be required, and the vaccination would be due annually.

To complete the puppy vaccination series, a 16-week vaccination appointment is required. At this time, the DA2PP (Distemper/Adenovirus/Parvovirus/Parainfluenza) with Leptospirosis will be repeated once more, and your puppy will receive its Rabies vaccination. If your puppy did not receive the Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccination at the 12-week appointment, you can opt to have it done at this time.

The Rabies vaccination is required by law.
