Dog Skin Care Back

The skin is the largest organ in the body, making it important to monitor your pet’s skin. In cases when skin issues are present, it is often a sign of more serious conditions that lie under the surface. Skin care should be considered one of the most critical components of your dog's overall health. This should also include regular grooming and food that is appropriately suited for your dog’s needs.

Skin Issues can be caused by various things. These include:

  • Fleas (can have secondary flea allergy dermatitis)
  • Immune disease
  • Allergies (environments and/or food)
  • Endocrine disease
  • Fungal disease
  • Mites or Mange

These issues can cause the following:

  • Itching or chewing at skin
  • Hair loss
  • Redness of skin
  • Lesions on skin
  • Odour

Treatment of your dog’s skin issues will depend on what the underlying cause is. To determine this, the veterinarian will start with a physical examination and can discuss possible diagnostic tests from there.
Please discuss skin care with one of our veterinarians at any of your pets’ examinations!
