Dog Dental Care Back

By age three, dental disease affects over 80% of dogs, primarily due to periodontal disease, which can lead to serious health problems if left untreated. When periodontitis or gingivitis occurs, bacteria may spread via the blood and impact other important organs. At your dog’s annual physical examination, the veterinarian will examine the oral cavity to the best of their abilities. If you have any specific concerns regarding your dog’s dental health, please make sure to inform the veterinarian.

We recommend routine preventative care against dental disease. This includes brushing the teeth (pet specific toothpaste and brush, at least 3 times a week), dental diets, dental chews, water additives, dental wipes and dental sprays.

If your dog has a dental issue requiring dental extractions, or your pet is recommended a dental cleaning, we can provide those services at Burford Veterinary Hospital. With our newly renovated dental suite, we can provide dental scaling and polishing, dental radiographs, dental extractions and oral mass removals (for the most part).

Please discuss dental care with one of our veterinarians at any of your pets’ examinations!
