Blood Tests for Cats Back

There are many circumstances where blood testing may be recommended and/or required for your cat. These include:

  • FIV / Feleuk Snap test (Feline immunodeficiency virus and Feline leukemia virus screening)
  • Wellness bloodwork (general profile for suspected healthy pet to act as a baseline)
  • Senior bloodwork (screening for changes in organ function in aging cats)
  • Pre-operative bloodwork (a general understanding of organ health prior to receiving an anesthetic)
  • Urgent bloodwork (cats that come into clinic with suspected illness)
  • Medication use (some medication requires blood testing before starting as well as routinely during use)

At Burford Veterinary Hospital, we have an in-house laboratory that provides us with blood results within 30 minutes. This is often utilized in more urgent cases where results are required quickly. We are limited to smaller testing profiles though, therefore also rely on an external laboratory to run larger or more specific blood panels for us. The turnaround time for results is often a couple of days, depending on the panel.
